Global Weekly: Shivers after missile launch

A new North-Korean missile launch, floods in Texas and unpredictable politicians troubled financial markets this week. Also, global inflation remained disappointing.

Equity markets update

Equity markets continued to be somewhat uneasy over the past week, largely caused by another missile launch by North Korea. As this time, the missile flew over the mainland of Japan, the political impact was more significant than in earlier occasions. Nevertheless, after a short retreat and a relatively cautious tone from US President Donald Trump, equity markets recovered somewhat. On balance, equity markets have been moving sideways in dollar terms over the past months. With the appreciation of the euro, however, equity returns for euro investors have decreased by some 7% from market highs in May this year.
