Our History

The story of ABN AMRO Belgium begins in 1937. That’s when one of ABN AMRO’s predecessors, the Amsterdamsche Bank, established itself in Antwerp to finance the diamond trade. Since then, ABN AMRO has grown into a market leader in that sector.

In Belgium

AMRO Bank Belgie in 1975-1984This was soon followed by the Private Bank, serving wealthy Dutch individuals in Belgium. The service was expanded to include Belgian and French high-net-worth clients. Private Banking is now part of ABN AMRO Belgium’s core business.

The bank also wanted to serve Dutch companies having links with Belgium and vice versa. In view of the close trading ties between the Netherlands and Belgium, the establishment of Corporate Banking was the logical next step. The maritime sector in particular is increasingly prominent, operating within the major triangle formed by the ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp.

In 2012 ABN AMRO launched MoneYou online savings. With a diversified offer of online savings products, MoneYou has now earned a leading position in this segment.

Finally, Corporate Finance has also begun, focussing on customers who have entrusted both their private wealth and their corporate assets to ABN AMRO.

Today, ABN AMRO is a strong bank with Dutch roots and a global network. Over 350 staff are at your service, covering the various activities. Besides its main office in Berchem, ABN AMRO Belgium now has offices in Antwerp, Brussels, Hasselt and Kortrijk.
